Day Fifty-Eight

We're getting to the end of the really horrible flash self-portraits, I promise. The weather at the retreat center was really so unpredictable, I ended up with freakish outfits like this one... empire waist top, layering tank, smocked waist skirt, and velour foldover waist pants. Total, $28ish.

Day Fifty-Seven

Sorry for the goofy pose; I wanted to show off the awesome sleeves on this top. They are flowy and airy and altogether wonderful. Top, tank, skirt, lace-trimmed shorts, and socks total $18ish.

Day Fifty-Six

Ugh, horrible picture quality that comes from using a self-timer with camera propped up on a bunch of snapple bottles in a room with next to no natural light. But here's the belly and the supercute big brother. I'm not sure if I'm combining stripes and dots right, but my options are limited. Stretchy skirt + empire waist top + layering tank + lace trimmed shorts = $23ish.

Day Fifty-Five

Still frantically housecleaning, sweating puddles, and waiting on my laptop... trying to keep things simple. This skirt has a nice stretch to it, which works well for any stage, and the shirt is perfect for maternity wear since it is fitted up top and roomy in the belly. With a layering tank, $19ish.

Day Fifty-Four

Heat wave + laptop failure + camera temporarily out of commission + massive housecleaning = not much going on the coordinated outfit front. We were theoretically having over two weeks of various houseguests and going out of town for five days of that. I had grand aspirations/delusions of tackling huge rarely accomplished projects (at least huge and rarely accomplished here) like cleaning the blinds and scouring the baseboards. Unsurprisingly, those somewhat less drastically necessary tasks fell by the wayside, but I promise that eventually the bathroom was cleaned.

But Sunday marked 28 weeks, so I broke out the dress I wore when I was 28 weeks pregnant with Jack. The belly is definitely bigger this time around! (and not just the belly *sigh*)

So the long stretch of no pictures means I've been looking like a big sweaty blob, but hey! the house looks pretty good. Dress was a hand-me-down, shirt was a gift, so the layering tank and knit skirt with lace trimmed shorts total about $17. The shorts are kind of a necessity with many short skirts since I'm chasing the wild child all the time, so I've culled a few of my normal ones and cut the fronts open as I did with the jeggings.

Day Fifty-Three

This is not the outfit to wear to the park, but I didn't realize when I put it on that I would then be spending two hours and a half climbing up all kinds of playground equipment, careening down slides, running up and down hills, scaling rocks, etc. Shirt, layering tank, and knit skirt, $13ish.

Day Fifty-Two

This top is a little too dressy for everyday comfort, so it has been a long time since I've tried it on, and now it's almost too small, but I guess it's doing pretty well for a non-maternity shirt. It has huge belt loops for a super-wide belt that can't possibly fit now, so I had to find something else to fill that space. Worn with a layering tank and smocked waist skirt, $14ish.

Day Fifty-One

Some real maternity clothes that fit and are comfy! These shorts have the long, thin, stretchy panel that works so well for me, and the shirt doesn't flip up in front. I'd love to have a dozen of this shirt in different colors. $23ish total. Jack's expression in the next picture cracks me up every time.... even though I see it about 50 times a day. Pouty pout face.

Day Fifty

Since today was mostly spent sewing and reading, I wanted something comfortable for slouching around and ended up with an outfit straight from my first pregnancy. A real maternity shirt that it seems like I wore all the time during my summer second trimester and a very stretchy skirt that falls at just the wrong length but is too wondrously comfy to not wear. $5ish.

I really want to know why so many "real" maternity shirts flip up at the bottom. I thought we were supposed to be paying all that extra money so that our gigantic untanned underbellies would get some coverage. In this shirt, I can feel a constant breeze, and if I happen to reach up... well, when my husband walked in the door he immediately pointed at the hem of my shirt and snickered.

Day Forty-Nine

Wow, so yes I do know that I'm ballooning, but I was still a little surprised to try on a dress this morning and discover that it was ludicrously small all over. Ah vanity.... so much for the idea of only growing in the belly. But anyway, after laughing and rolling my eyes, I peeled off the ridiculous dress and tried this one instead. Much better. Bias cut and asymmetrical hem = perfection. Layered over a yellow maternity tee, $18ish.

Day Forty-Eight

These are one of the regular jeggings that I just sliced down the front, and that technique worked great with my first pregnancy, but I'm afraid that it might not be as effective with the constant bending and lifting of having a toddler. Putting in a little stretchy panel would be super easy, especially since I have so many scraps from the infinity dress project, but it's just a matter of getting it done while it's still needed. Procrastination and pregnancy just don't mix well. The pink top is one of the many empire waist shirts I picked up ages ago, and it has plenty of room i it, unlike the regular layering tee underneath, which keeps working its way up. $17ish.

Day Forty-Seven

This is one of those weird pieces of clothing that is maybe a shirt or maybe a dress, and it's even weirder because it has these completely incomprehensible side drapes/wings/misshapen pockets/whoknowswhat. Even though it makes me look like Violet Beauregarde as she's being rolled out of the inventing room, I just love the color. Worn with my black skinny cords and a black waffle tee, $24ish.
